Muddy Pond Sorghum Mill is operated by the Guenther family and is located midway between Nashville and Knoxville in the hills of Tennessee. Come visit us during September and October and watch us make sorghum syrup. The sorghum mill is in operation beginning the Saturday before Labor Day, on Labor Day, then we skip the next day which is Tuesday. Then we make sorghum every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday until the end of October.
We are members of the National Sweet Sorghum Producers and Processors Association (NSSPPA). Our sorghum is pure sorghum with no additives. We proudly display the logo, as seen to the right of 100% pure sorghum syrup above. When you see this logo on a container of sorghum, it signifies that the sorghum is pure. Each year, NSSPPA has an annual meeting. At the meeting there is a sorghum syrup contest, which has about 40 entries from all over the U.S. To the right you will see the certificates we have won, and we have also placed in the top 5 a number of other years. You can check out the sorghum association on the web at www.nssppa.org
Pete and Doreen Guenther sell sorghum and cane syrup containers. Check out their web site at www.guenthersorghumsupply.com or call them at 931-445-3589.
You can also see us make sorghum at various festivals, using a horse drawn press and boiling the sorghum juice down to syrup on site at the festival. Click on festivals above to get dates and locations of the festivals.
Muddy Pond Variety Store is owned by John and Emma Guenther and is open year round, closed Sundays. The store is located across the road from the sorghum mill.
